Have I mentioned that my family really enjoys all books by Mo Willems? Today my family watched via Scholastic Book Flix, Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! Before even watching the book, Mrs. Harden asked the family why it was not a good idea for the Pigeon to drive the bus? I am glad that she asked because I was not sure of the answer. I think it sounds like a great idea!
After watching the book, my family described the characteristics or character traits of the Pigeon (not what he looks like but descriptions and distinguishing qualities of the Pigeon) We focused on his feelings and personality. For example, the Pigeon is frustrated in the book. He is also very persistent. Next we continued to use the Scholastic Magazine to invent a a fun new way to get to school. The online prompt says:
Why not take it a step further and create your new transportation with LEGOs or items you found around the house. Or perhaps you want to start to learn to 3D print with Tinkercad. Could you also make a commercial for your transportation? Perhaps one that educates the viewers on the cool parts and how it moves? What more fun Pigeon ideas? Learn to draw the Pigeon and more here. Lastly, if I were you I would write a persuasive letter to the bus driver, in honor of the Pigeon explaining with clear reasons why the pigeon should be allowed to drive the bus. Stay well, Tulip

Check out these cool resources from Scholastic. The girls have been doing these and have really enjoyed them. They have practiced their sequencing skills (putting items in order) and the difference between fiction and fact. There are different activities for different grade levels. Turn off the audio and read along. They are day-to-day projects to get our minds moving. Just choose the grade level that fits you the best!
