Happy Thanksgiving! Today I invite you to learn more about the history of Thanksgiving using BrainPop! Logins and passwords for BrainPop can be found in the Library Canvas course. Stay well and see you on the 30th of November. Tulip What is the difference between fiction and nonfiction? As a bunny, I always get confused!
Fiction: Made up stories Nonfiction: informational, filled with facts about real people and places Mrs. Harden recently did a lesson for the Youngers all about this! Check out the Video. She also encouraged the students to find a book and decide if it was fiction or nonfiction. The activity can be found here. Bonus question for you: If I wanted to learn true information about an animal, person or a place, what type of book would I need? Where would I find this type of book? Answer: Nonfiction - in the non fiction section of the library and you would use the Dewey Decimal System to find the book that you want! Stay well, Tulip Kids find and read news in lots of different ways. Studies show they're not very good at interpreting what they see. Mrs. Harden taught the older students about the structure of online news articles. They discussed the purposes of different parts of an online news page while identifying the parts and structure of an online news article. Additionally, they learned about things to watch out for when reading online news pages, such as sponsored content and advertisements. Check out the video here. After watching the video you can take this quiz to test if you are a Deceptive Detective! This is lesson was inspired by Common Sense Media. Stay well, Tulip Mrs. Harden subscribes to a weekly email from Ian Byrd. This week he showcased a website that teaches you to to fold a piece of paper to make a tiny, no-staples, photocopy-able book! What a fun idea!
What will yours be about? Stay well, Tulilp This week, Mrs. Harden taught the students about the Draw and Tell app found in Self Service. Draw and Tell - by Duck Duck Moose is a unique drawing and coloring app designed for kids. It encourages visual and verbal storytelling by including an option for kids to record their own voice in conjunction with the drawing or coloring pages. Ideas for the learning:
What will you create with the Draw and Tell app? Stay well, Tulip Mrs. Harden talked about Veteran's Day in today's school wide announcements. She learned about Veteran's Day using PebbleGo. There is so much great information on PebbleGo! It even has videos and reads to you. Another fantastic resources that is available for all Wisconsin residents is Britannica School. The site has been updated with a fun design but with all of the same great information. Reading nonfiction is so great especially when it is presented in such a fun format. Stay well, Tulip Mrs. Harden found this fun Paint By Color Activity and then she put her own spin on it and made it a library focus. As you answer the questions correctly, the jack-o-lantern will be colored!
You can join in the fun by clicking on this link and completing the form. Here is a library e-edition of Would You Rather. Would You Rather is when you are given two or more options to choose from. Some of the options are not always very good. These options of course are all good because they are all about books! This week's library lesson features a showcase of books that are available in MackinVia. MackinVia is a platform to access our school’s digital content (audiobooks and ebooks). Titles can be downloaded to read offline. Students can access MackinVia at night, during the day and on the weekends. In the video, students are given "Would You Rather" situations that feature these electronic and audio books! Along with a how-to use the app. What will you read or listen to on MackinVia? Does anything interest you? Stay well, Tulip It is always fun to see the new books when coming to the library (or so I have heard). Students know that they are new because of the orange tape on the spine of the book. Sadly, the school building is closed. Mrs. Harden still wanted to get new books into the students' hands. So she created this video showcasing what is new at our school Library. All books can be ordered and delivered curbside via LibraryDASH. Check them out! Stay well, Tulip |
