The fabulous Mrs. Fuller sent the youngest daughter some writing prompts. One of which was to write an introduction, steps and conclusion for something you know how to do well. You may not know this but the youngest daughter loves to eat peanut butter sandwiches. So she took it upon herself to write directions on how to write a peanut butter sandwich. She began by writing the steps. Then Mrs. Harden followed the steps word for word. It looked like this: 1. Got to the pantry 2. Look for the bread and peanut butter. 3. Take out two slices of bread. 4. Take out knife. 5. Open the lid of the peanut butter. 6. Put the knife in the peanut butter. 7. Take out the knife and put on slices of bread. Most humans all know how to make a peanut butter sandwich. But if you follow the directions literally you don't get a sandwich that is edible. You actually don't get past step three as it does not tell you to pick up the bread and peanut butter and bring them to the table. My family ultimately got the peanut butter sandwich completed. They added some steps and repeated others. This whole activity was great as it lead into writing more detailed instructions like "Untie the bread using the white ties to unwind and open bag with whole." It also made Mrs. Harden think about coding. Coding is the step-by-step set of instructions. Learn more about coding with BrainPop. (Login: Hamiltinwi Password: Hamilton) Need something to do? Coding is fun! Write some directions and get to coding. Stay well, Tulip
