Thank you for supporting my blog. I appreciate everyone logging in and learning beyond the classroom with me, Tulip the bunny! At this time I am going to take a hiatus from blogging.

April is School Library Month - a month dedicated to celebrating the essential role that strong school libraries play in transforming learning.
School libraries provide more than just books. They provide computers and other technology, databases of accurate information, e-books, and fun and educational activities. Additionally, School libraries provide a safe haven for all students to think, create, share, and grow. Even with the school building construction and the school library unavailable for student use, our students have been requesting books and keeping Mrs. Harden and Mrs. Johnson extremely busy. Library lessons take place in the classrooms and student book requests are delivered to their classrooms for their enjoyment. It is exciting to see the students sharing and enjoying their library books and becoming life-long library supporters. In the Hamilton/SOTA I library we value:
Thank you for encouraging your students love or reading and support of our school library. Stay well, Tulip Check out these new books found in our Hamilton/SOTA I library. Request your book today! This week we work on coding. Codes are a special language that a computer can understand.Coding is the step-by-step set of instructions for a computer. After watching the video explaining coding, students should decode the secret message. For a challenge, students can write their own code and share it with a friend.

Chatterpix Kids can make anything talk -- pets, books, doodles, and more. Simply take a photo, draw a line to make a mouth, and record your voice. Remember you only have 30 seconds. You can create ChatterPix with friends and family as silly greetings, playful messages, creative cards, or even fancy book reports. ChatterPix is created by DUCK DUCK MOOSE, a subsidiary of Khan Academy. Check out the video below on how to use this cool app found in Self Service. Stay Well, Tulip Fall of 2020, Mrs. Harden won a La Crosse Public Education grant for our school to read and discuss the book, All Because You Matter by Tami Charles. This text is relevant as it leaves opportunities for our students to question, interpret and think specifically about what makes them special and why the matter. As part of the grant, each classroom received a book to read aloud with their students. Inspired by this book, we asked each of our students to become authors and illustrators and to share why they matter by creating a page of the book. Using the grant funds, each classroom will receive a printed book of student work. Each of the different classes participated in different activities that the students did in conjunction with the project. Kindergarten students created their own watercolor paper which they then cut out leaves from . On their page of the book, they drew themselves in the center of the page. They decorated the drawings with their cut out leaves from the painted paper. First and Second Grade students discussed the importance of your name and how it is important that people say our names correctly. They wrote their name on the paper in the space as big as they could. They were asked to decorate their name with different designs and patterns. We discussed that our name matters. Students in grades 3 completed the sentence, "I matter because..." and then drew a picture of what they like most about themselves; making sure to include as many details as they could. Our oldest students wrote a list or drew pictures to show all the ways they mattered including as many details as they could. Parents have the opportunity to pre-order their own copy of your class’ unique masterpiece! When they order online, you will save $2 on the purchase of hardcover books from Student Treasures. Check out the video that Mrs. Harden put together explaining the first week of the project. Stay well, Tulip Let’s Give Credit where Credit is Due - how to give credit for other people's work. It is important to give proper credit as not to plagiarism when researching and writing papers. The video below begins to explain the importance of citing sources. Based on the curriculum from Common Sense Media. Stay well, Tulip This week we are going on a Picture Book Hunt! First, find a picture book and we will get started! Please make a video and share yourself finding the following items: Title: Name of the book Author: Write the words Spine: Outside edge of the book Character: Person, animal or creature in the story Bonus: Share your favorite illustration! Video's can be sent to Mrs. Harden. I can't wait to see what you create. Stay well, Tulip Taking care of library books is so important! In today's blog I talk about how to properly take care of library books (like keeping them away from pets!). We even play a virtual game. Stay well, Tulip Do you like sports? If so, what kind? Have you ever wondered how your favorite sports team started? Have you ever heard of the Harlem Globetrotters? They are a basketball team that began in Chicago. They are an amazing group of of athletes. Mrs. Harden reads the book, Swish! and shares about the Harlem Globetrotters in the video. Stay well, Tulp |
